Angela Merkel is not known for emotional outbursts or speeches. Usually she gives speeches that are well thought out, sophisticated and often pre-written.
Today I saw this video:
She was desperate. And she clearly let you in on it. In part, she didn't find the right words right away and stumbled over the language. That was moving and touching. Such a speech does not pass by without leaving a trace.
Whoever manages to connect content with emotions during a speech has won! That's what you position yourself for as a listener. Emotions go deep under the skin and trigger reactions.
Whoever breaks with expectations will get attention.
This speech by Angela Merkel was all the more powerful because people are not used to and do not expect precisely this emotionality from her.
Those who break with expectations will get attention. And that was important in this speech. And it's important in any speech if you want the audience to take a position on the content.
Why not try this in your speeches!
